Our 2-hour ride is an immersive experience designed for those who want to fully explore the stunning landscapes around Ben Lomond station. This trek is perfect for riders who have a bit more time and are looking to enjoy a deeper connection with the natural beauty of the area.
The Gills Canyon Trek follows a spectacular scenic route, revealing breathtaking views as you journey through vast valleys and along exhilarating ridge lines. This area was once part of a thriving gold mining region in the late 1800s and along the way you’ll ride through the remnants of an old settlement.
The trail offers a diverse mix of terrain from open meadows and rolling hills to rugged mountain tracks, sweeping canyons sweeping canyons and creek crossings, you might even see a waterfall or two or if you're lucky enough, spot a hint of gold! If you have a sense of adventure and love nature, this is the experience for you! Suited to strong intermediate riders and above due to terrain and *pace* subject to guide recommendation.
Your experienced and passionate guides will share fascinating details about the local area, including its history and culture, native flora, and fauna you may come across and of course any horse questions you might have! If you're an intermediate to experienced rider looking for a more in-depth adventure, this two-hour ride is a memorable way to immersively experience the rugged beauty of Moke Lake and its surroundings.

What to Bring
Please dress to the weather conditions and temperature.

Long comfortable pants, suitable sturdy closed covered footwear (no large heels, crocs or sandals permitted), sunscreen/insect repellent.

A water bottle and sunglasses are also recommended.

A phone or small camera is recommended to capture your memories (your responsibility).

We provide helmets and wet weather jackets if required. Helmets are worn at all times when riding a horse.

Moke Lake is approx 20mins from Queenstown CDB, Allow travel time between activities. Gravel surfaces are to be expected, plan accordingly.

Check in time 15 min prior to ride departure (we do not hold any rides so please be on time. When being late and the group has already left we unfortunately can't give a refund)

Your privacy is important to us, if you are not comfortable with your images being used, please let us know, and we will gladly respect your preference.

Cancellations Online rescheduling up to 72 hours prior • 48hrs - 7days cancellation prior to booking date 50% refund • NO refund 48hrs before booking.

Min age 5 years old. All children 10 years old and under MUST be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Max Weight 85kg. The well being of our horses is important, clients may be weighed at check in and then you will be introduced to the horse that best suits your riding ability and weight. When you are above the weight limit you unfortunately won't be able to attempt the ride and no refund will be given.

For the safety of all involved, ALL clients must understand and be able to communicate in ENGLISH for the entire duration of any activity as a safety requirement. No refunds are offered in the event you are turned away due to a breach in this policy.
